Kicking Off the 2011-2012 School Year
Can you believe that we are beginning a new school year! WE have been busy all summer preparing for an exciting year.
This year we have nine Title I Pre-K classrooms, with one classroom located at each of the Title I schools. Janet Turner and Tracey Fluharty, Title I Specialists have worked through the summer to develop our own Pre-K Essential Standards that are aligned with the NC Kindergarten Essential Standards. Our focus in Pre-K will be on strengthening the curriculum and instruction so that our students are better for Kindergarten.

Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts qualifies for free tutoring (Supplemental Educational Services) for the 2011/2012 school year.
Supplemental Educational Services (SES) are academic tutoring services offered after school hours to increase the academic achievement of economically disadvantaged students in the areas of reading and math. The tutoring services are paid with federal funds and are free to parents of eligible students. Under the federal No Child Left Behind (NCLB) law, Title 1 schools in School Improvement must offer supplemental educational services to eligible students.
Benton Heights Elementary School of the Arts hosted a Tutoring Provider Fair on September 15, 2011 from 5:30-7:30pm in their Gym. Tutoring information was also sent home to parents with detailed information on tutoring providers and the application process.
